Natural healing
What's our greatest natural resource? Nature itself. It's healing, it's calming, it's beautiful and it's free. Yet we mostly pass through it without much notice. It's like walking through the Louvre every morning to get to work and not bothering to look at the Mona Lisa. What's the hurry? Trees, mountains, birds - they're in our blood. We just feel better when we're in nature, or at least looking at it out the window. If you meditate, try it outside under a tree. Let the rustle of the wind in the leaves, the dappled sunlight on your eyelids enter your meditation and enrich it. In fact, one of the reasons that we find it hard to visualize the beautiful settings in our meditations is that we don't fill our minds with careful observations of nature's beauty. If we set our meditations in an office cubicle or the checkout line at the grocery store, everyone could visualize brilliantly. Our minds are full of what we fill them with. Let's fill them with fragrant flowers, glittering dragonflies and beautiful birdsong.
Enter the garden
Of course, we usually need a reason to go outside, so how about gardening? It's the perfect metaphor for earthly life. You get dirty, but something beautiful arises from the dirt. Some of your plants flourish while others wither and die. The passing of the seasons, changes in light, temperature, rain or dry are all exaggerated in the garden, bringing you into closer contact with the very nature from which we sprang. And even the most minimal garden draws hummingbirds and honeybees, a little Eden in your own yard. Please contact me for more information about creating your own Meditation Garden.
Reach for the stars
Stargazing has enthralled humans since before we even became human. Even without a telescope, you can see stars and planets, galaxies and nebulas. What a great way to bring a sense of wonder back into your life. And the moon. How lucky are we to have such a beautiful moon? Perhaps her silvery light was the only witness to your first kiss or the first time that you made love. Step out, look up and enjoy the view. It goes on forever.
