Yoga for life

Yoga is an ancient method for calming and healing the body, mind and spirit. Begun in India thousands of years ago, yoga is still evolving today. From ultra-vigorous Ashtanga to gentle, restorative yoga, there are styles and classes for every type of person. People often feel that they have to tie themselves in a knot to practice yoga, but it's really about doing what's right for your body. When you find the yoga style that's right for you, you feel great every time you practice. I practice yoga every day and have seen a great increase in calm and energy, plus of course, strength and flexibility.

Health benefits

Asanas are the poses that most people associate with yoga. Not only do the asanas stretch and strengthen, they increase blood flow to internal organs and muscles, stimulating the immune system and more. Pranayama is the practice of breathing. Yogic breathing takes in as much as seven times the amount of oxygen as our usual anxious, shallow breathing. If you breathe fully for one hour per day, you could increase your daily oxygen intake by as much as twenty five percent! The health benefits are astounding. Of course, yoga also includes meditation. The word yoga comes from a Sanskrit word meaning yoke - symbolizing the union of body, mind and spirit.

"We are all already perfect. All that remains is to uncover the true self within us."
